Throughout the years, women from the city of Denison, to now the Grayson County area, have consistently embraced the mission of serving their community, particularly its children. A key element in this endeavor has been the Bargain Box. Established in July 1955 by the Denison Service League, the Bargain Box aimed to support local families by offering gently used, high-quality clothing and small household items at affordable prices. In 1957, after moving several times, it found its permanent home in a two-story row building in downtown Denison, constructed in 1900. A partial renovation in 2004, funded by local foundation grants, created a lovely, dedicated meeting space for Service League members. Following the transition from the Denison Service League to the Junior League of Grayson County, significant renovations in the winter of 2023 included a new storefront, updated windows, front display flooring, new tiles, worktables, a dressing room, and an office for League business. By summer 2024, air conditioning and heating were added to the second floor. Over the past two decades, as our League has expanded, the need to renovate the rest of the second floor has emerged. Members voted to transform this space into an event area.

The Bargain Box is an extension of JLGC’s mission of constant community service. This retail store operates entirely on volunteer efforts from the Junior League of Grayson County with renovations and inventory supported by generous local donors. For over 60 years, these donors have remained committed, contributing significantly to various local service projects. You can find clothing, shoes, jewelry, books, toys, home goods, and small household appliances in the store. You can feel good knowing your purchase at this store recycles right back in support of local charities. The Bargain Box declares every day “Half Price Day,” and has weekly specials.
