Back Pack Program

Many children across Grayson County school districts rely on the free lunch program, and sadly, some of them go without food when they’re not at school. While free breakfast and lunch are available during the school day, no district programs provide meals for weekends or summer breaks. To address this issue, the United Way of Grayson County began offering backpacks filled with food for students to take home. In the 2023-2024 school year, the Junior League partnered with them, contributing food and volunteer support to enhance their efforts. In the summer of 2024, the Junior League of Grayson County launched its own summer backpack program for Denison ISD. Children enrolled in the free lunch program could visit Waples United Methodist Church to collect a bag of food for the weekend. Looking ahead, the League plans to expand this initiative to other schools in the county for the summer of 2025. This program will require financial or in-kind contributions for the food, and your support—no matter the amount—can make a significant difference!
